Gelatin Sequins Recipe

Colorful, shimmering gelatin sequins that add a playful, jewel-toned sparkle to cakes, cupcakes, and desserts. Easy to make and perfect for edible decorating fun.

Ingredients

Scale

1/4 cup unflavored gelatin
1/2 cup cold water
1/2 cup boiling water
Food coloring, assorted colors
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
1/4 cup granulated sugar (optional)

Instructions

Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over cold water in a bowl and let bloom for 5 minutes.
Pour boiling water over the gelatin and whisk until completely dissolved.
Stir in vanilla extract and sugar if using.
Divide mixture into small bowls and add food coloring to each.
Pour each color into a shallow mold or pan in a thin layer.
Let gelatin set at room temperature for 2–3 hours or refrigerate until firm.
Cut set gelatin into small sequin shapes using a knife or cutter.
Place sequins on parchment paper and let dry for 1 hour before using.

Notes

Use silicone molds for easier removal and uniform shapes.
Store sequins with parchment between layers to prevent sticking.
